You pose a savory question! In and of itself, opposition to particular positions or actions does not negate the spirit of inter-faith dialogue. At times, we need to hold one another accountable for our behaviors.
The attempt at burning the Quran by a non-Muslim was clearly intended as an act of violence against another religious group. Acts of inter-faith (IF) violence are in direct conflict with the principles of inter-faith dialogue. Removing the Quran from harm’s way without threatening the safety nor the integrity of instigator’s religion is a responsible critique of the instigator’s efforts.
I would hope that attempts be made by the local IF group to include the instigator in future conversations and that the IF community not demonize him for his heretical views.
